Helping Hands Board

Terms

What you agree to by using Helping Hands Board.

The short version

A board is a place to ask for help and to offer it, inside one community that has invited you. Be straight with people, post only what is yours to post, and remember that whoever a request is for is having a hard week.

Your account

You need an invite to join a board, and the link is meant for you rather than for forwarding: passing it on adds a stranger to a community that did not choose them.

Use a name your community would recognise. A board works because members can tell who they are talking to, and a name nobody recognises is a name an admin will remove.

What you post

  • Post your own need, or one you have been asked to post for someone else. Either way, leave out anything that identifies a person who has not chosen to be named.
  • Nothing here is for sale. No prices, no fundraising, no advertising, and no asking for money in a comment.
  • Do not offer anything illegal to give away, or anything recalled, expired, or broken in a way the person collecting it would not expect.
  • No harassment, and nothing that would make someone regret having asked for help.
  • Post your own words about your own things, and do not repeat what you read on a board anywhere outside it.

Handovers happen between people

When you claim a request, what follows is an arrangement between you and the people on that board. This product does not vet members, check what is being handed over, or take any part in the exchange. It cannot, and pretending otherwise would be worse than saying so.

So use the judgment you would use anywhere else: meet somewhere sensible, check that a thing is safe and suitable before passing it on, and tell an admin when something is wrong. Admins know their community and are the people best placed to sort it out.

Admins run their own boards

Whoever set up a board decides who is in it, what is posted, whether members can post, and whether it carries on existing at all. They can remove a request or a member, including you, and they do not answer to us for those decisions. They are people in your community rather than staff of anything.

Leaving, and ending

You can leave a board whenever you like. What you already posted stays on it with your name attached, for the reason set out on the privacy page: a comment is half of a conversation someone else is still relying on.

An account used to harass people, to sell things, or to get into a board it was not invited to can be suspended. Report one to an admin of the board, or to adampolon@gmail.com.

The state of the software

This is early software, offered as it is, with no promise that it will be available the moment you need it or that nothing will go wrong. Do not let something that matters rest on it alone: if a family needs shoes by Monday, somebody should know about it out loud as well.

These terms will change as the product does. The date below is when they last did, and anything that changes materially will be said plainly rather than slipped in.

Questions about these terms go to adampolon@gmail.com.
