The short version

What you write on a board is visible to the members of that board and to nobody else. Nothing here is public, nothing is indexed, nothing is sold, and there are no trackers or advertising of any kind.

What is stored

• Your email address, held by the sign-in system so it can send you a code. It is deliberately not copied into the app’s own tables. Other members never see it. The admins of a board can, in the two cases described below, so that they can reach you about a request.
• Your name, which you choose when you first sign in. It is the only identity other members see, and it appears beside anything you post or comment on.
• Which boards you belong to and whether you are an admin or a member of each.
• What you write: requests, comments, and which requests you have offered to fulfil, with the times they happened.

If you sign in with Google instead of a code, Google tells us your email address and the name on your Google account, which is offered as a starting point for the name you choose. Nothing about your activity here is sent back to Google.

Who can see it

Members of a board see that board: its requests, its comments, and the names attached to them. That is the whole audience. Someone in a different board is not a smaller audience, they are no audience at all, and the rule is enforced in the database rather than in the screens, so it holds for every query this app makes and every one it might make later.

A board’s admins see a little more than its members: the member list, requests waiting for approval, and who posted a request when that board hides requestors’ names. They are the people running your community, and they can remove a member or a request.

Admins can also keep private notes on a request, so they can keep track of it among themselves. Only that board’s admins can read them. No member ever sees them, including whoever posted the request.

They can also see the email address of two people on a request, and only those two: whoever claimed it, and whoever posted it if that person is not an admin themselves. Nobody else’s address is visible to anyone, an admin of one board learns nothing about another, and a member never sees another member’s address at all.

What never happens

• No page inside a board can be read without signing in.
• No request has a shareable public address, and there are no preview cards for one pasted into a chat.
• An invite link pasted into a chat shows the name of the board it joins, and nothing else about it.
• Search engines can list only four pages: the home page, About, Terms, and this one. Every other page asks them not to, including every board, every invite link, and the sign-in screen.
• No analytics, no advertising, and no profile of you built from what you read.
• One third-party script, and only on the sign-in form: Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a person rather than a program is asking for a sign-in code. It runs nowhere else, and never inside a board.
• Nothing about a request or a comment goes into the address of a page, so it cannot leak through a browser history or a shared screen.

When an admin gets in touch

Claiming a request tells this board’s admins your email address, so that one of them can arrange the handover. Posting a request yourself tells them the same thing. Nothing else does: reading the board, commenting on a request, or simply being a member never puts your address in front of anyone.

The mail itself comes from an admin’s own mail app, addressed from their own account. Helping Hands Board does not send it, does not see it, and keeps no record that it was written. An admin may also write to you and the person who asked in the same message, which is how an introduction gets made, except on a board that hides who posted.

One thing travels with that mail: its subject line carries the board’s name and the title of the request, so that it is recognisable in an inbox rather than arriving as an unexplained message from a stranger. That is the only place a request’s words leave this board, and they leave it into the mail provider of whoever is being written to.

Cookies and email

The only cookies are the ones that keep you signed in. There are none for measurement or advertising, so there is nothing to consent to and no banner asking you to.

Sign-in email is the one message this product sends you, and it contains a six-digit code rather than a link, so nothing that scans your inbox can follow it.

Leaving, and what stays

You can leave a board at any time, which ends your access to it. What you already posted stays on the board with your name on it: a comment offering a school uniform is half of a conversation someone else is still relying on, and silently unpicking it would rewrite that community’s record of what happened.

Deleting an account outright is not built yet, and saying so is more honest than implying a button that does not exist. Until it is, an admin of your board can remove you from it, and if you want the account itself gone, email adampolon@gmail.com from the address you sign in with and it will be deleted by hand.
